The aim of the forum was to share information and update participants on how organisations, communities and regions are adapting to climate change.
Peter Norton-Baker, Managing Director of Water Plus, has prepared a 13-page report for the information of the ACT Government, the Opposition and the Greens, outlining what he thinks ought to be done about the water situation in the Australian Capital Territory.
We will keep you posted.
The recent HIA's Home Ideas Expo was a great success, drawing crowds of interested people seeking information on the newly launched modern, state-of-the-art, ultraGTS Greywater Treatment System. The HIA Home Ideas building at 28 Collie Street Fyshwick is where you can find our system, or visit our showroom at Water Plus, Unit 8, 64 Wollongong Street Fyshwick and we will gladly help you with advice and information on this new technology.
The ultraGTS employs the latest in membrane technology and UV disinfection. A compact Membrane Bio Reactor the ultraGTS utilises a combination of biological treatment and advanced membrane filtration followed by Ultra Violet Disinfection.
Greywater enters the system via an in-ground collection sump and is then automatically dosed into the system. After advanced treatment the recycled water is stored in a re-use tank ready for you to use at your pleasure.
The availability of water in suitable quantities is an essential part of a civilised way of life and with erratic weather patterns and intermittent rainfall, Greywater recycling is far more efficient than relying on rainfall.
Greywater represents 70 to 80 per cent of the water generated by your household, so it makes sense to recycle this scarce and precious resource. Be wise about your water needs - choose a Water Plus
ultraGTS.
12 May 2009, ACT Chief Minister, Mr Jon Stanhope, launches the new CUPREE drinking water appliance and the Water Plus ultraGTS (Greywater Treatment System).

Water Plus have managed the hat trick of saving jobs, water and the environment with their new and innovative CUPREE drinking water appliances and the Water Plus grey water treatment system. Chief Minister Jon Stanhope congratulated Managing Director, Peter Norton-Baker, on the Water Plus innovative systems which will generate jobs in Canberra and leave a reduced environmental footprint.
The CUPREE
Designed in Canberra by Water Plus, the CUPREE is a 'greener' alternative to electronic tap systems. The CUPREE range is simpler in design, easier to install and maintain, and won’t cost the earth – literally!
Water Plus has been repairing and maintaining electronic tap drinking systems for over 15 years, however customer surveys have revealed growing concerns at the expense of repairing and maintaining these systems, and they are also worried about the unnecessary damage to the environment associated with constant service calls, repairs and manufacture of replacement parts. The toxic e-waste contamination issues associated with recycling unserviceable parts also needed to be addressed.
The newly patented CUPREE drinking water appliances operate on water flow and water pressure, eliminating the need for electronic taps and other high-tech equipment. The simpler design also means fewer service calls and replacement parts which consume the hidden environmental costs of water, power and fossil fuels.
A major innovation in the CUPREE system is the efficient removal of heat generated by under sink chillers, which means that the chiller compressor cools the water over shorter periods and uses less power in the process.
Unlike other systems, the CUPREE does not use water to cool. Thousands of water-cooled appliances currently installed operate with water running to waste down the drain. At a time of continuing water scarcity, customers are now sensitive to this waste and prefer to use air cooling in the water chilling process.
The success of the new CUPREE system also means jobs. Its sales and operations hub is Water Plus’s Fyshwick base, with repairs and maintenance technicians appointed locally and interstate.
This centralised operation for the CUPREE has and will create manufacturing, assembly, marketing and administration positions in Canberra and we are currently talking to local investors.
Water Plus is also planning to take CUPREE innovation into the international markets.
The Water Plus ultraGTS (Greywater Treatment System)
Water Plus has applied its knowledge of water filtration with biological treatment to provide high quality water reuse systems for home owners. Water from the laundry, hand basins, bath and shower can be recycled for the washing machine, toilet flushing, irrigation and car washing. With the Water Plus ultraGTS it ‘rains’ every day. The home owner is able to store the water in a reuse tank to use at their discretion.
Homeowners can now choose to live without water restrictions and the garden city concept can be reborn at an affordable price.
Water Plus is also negotiating to bring the assembly, distribution and associated employment of the systems to Canberra. This is technology that we have trialled and proven right here in the ACT.
The new Water Plus ultraGTS can be seen at the Housing Industry Association's Home Ideas exhibition building on the corner of Collie and Albany Streets in Fyshwick or visit our showroom at Unit 8 of 64 Wollongong Street, Fyshwick, ACT. Map.
